Local and Regional Collaboration
FSK works closely with neighboring councils to address wildfire challenges that cross community boundaries. We're involved in efforts such as lobbying Zone 0 rulemaking, contributing to regional evacuation planning, and supporting shaded fuel break projects. We will also pursue grants and fundraise for projects that will strengthen community resilience.
Volunteer Training and Support
In 2024, our town had four Firewise Communities. Thanks to District efforts, that number has grown to 22. FSK is supporting this growth, with training, web development, and resources. One program currently underway is our group educational walks for volunteers, sharing knowledge and teaching ideas, along with outreach materials for engaging their neighbors.
Community Resources and Education
FSK is dedicated to keeping our community informed with accurate, up-to-date information on wildfire resources, regulatory changes, and product innovations. Our approach will include outreach events, community forums, and curated website content to answer residents' questions, provide up-to-date news to support informed decision-making.
Addressing Fuel Reduction
Mapping Kensington Fuels and targeting fire-prone plants
Our first step in fuel reduction efforts for our community is to map Kensington's areas of concern–-pockets of high-risk, fire-prone vegetation threatening our neighborhoods. Once that is complete and prioritized, we will work in collaboration with homeowners, our District and Fire officials, and stakeholders such as PG&E, EBMUD, and EBRPD, to seek support and funding for both large and small-scale projects.
Community Ambassadors
Thirteen Community Ambassadors received certification for participation in Cal Fire's Defensible Space Inspections training!
Ambassadors are an independent network of neighborhood volunteers, dedicated to advancing wildfire preparedness and resilience in Kensington. Acting as neighborhood liaisons, they provide property assessments, connect residents to resources and work with KCSD and local fire professionals to promote defensible space, home hardening, and wildfire preparedness.
