Our Work
Local and Regional Collaboration
FSK works closely with neighboring councils to address wildfire challenges that cross community boundaries. We're involved in efforts such as shaping Zone 0 rulemaking, contributing to regional evacuation planning, and supporting shaded fuel break projects. We will also pursue grants for projects that will strengthen community resilience.
Firewise Training and Support
In 2024, our town had only 4 Firewise Communities. Thanks to District efforts, that number has grown to 20 this year. FSK is ready to support this growth, with training and resources. Our first project is educational mitigation walks for Firewise leaders, giving them the information and a simple framework for engaging and educating their neighbors.
Community Resources and Education
FSK is dedicated to keeping our community informed with accurate, up-to-date information on wildfire resources, regulatory changes, and product innovations. Our approach will include outreach efforts, community forums, and curated website content designed to answer residents' questions and support informed decision-making.
New Opportunities for Residents
Our first program, Community Ambassadors
Supported by FSK, expert advisors, and partner agencies such as KCSD and CAL FIRE, Community Ambassadors are trained neighborhood volunteers dedicated to advancing wildfire preparedness and resilience in Kensington. Acting as liaisons, they'll connect residents to resources, organize projects, and collaborate with KCSD and our fire professionals to promote defensible space, home hardening, and wildfire awareness.
And Coming Soon, Wildfire Assessments
Using an educational approach, Ambassadors will visit Kensington residents' properties on request to evaluate vulnerabilities, provide tailored suggestions, and resources to improve their fire resilience. This free program emphasizes personal education and actionable solutions that will also build a safer community. Each Wildfire Assessment covers best practices for home hardening, Zone 0, and defensible space, as well as wildfire behavior, how homes ignite, and what makes a landscape more resilient to ember showers and spot fires.
